HEALING TRAUMA & NERVOUS SYSTEM DYSREGULATION

I work with adults who present an ‘I’ve got it together’ persona on the outside, yet on the inside they are anything but! They are overwhelmed, stuck and struggling and it’s affecting their daily lives.

Using a combination of counselling and embodiment therapy, online via Zoom, we navigate physical, mental and emotional root-causes to start healing from within to feel  whole and empowered to live life on your terms.

Trauma can hinder your capacity to navigate life as you once did.  It arises from an event or events that was so overwhelming it impaired your ability to process it at the time. Instead of being channeled into the typical “fight or flight” response, trauma lingers within your body.

An essential step as you begin your therapeutic journey toward healing involves finding a therapist who makes you feel safe and comfortable.

My process

Using a combination of counselling and somatic psychotherapy encourages individuals to delve into their issues by incorporating the body’s responses alongside conscious awareness. It recognises the intricate connection between thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations within a person’s holistic experience.

This therapeutic approach provides a platform to ease distress and discomfort, celebrate successes, untangle feelings of anger and shame, create room for grief, develop tolerance for shifting emotional states, boost resilience, and nurture the capacity to trust and engage with others.

In doing so, it allows you to address longstanding concerns that require a comprehensive exploration over time.

REGULATION

Sooth and repair your nervous system and create a sense of safety in your body.

INNER HEALING

Examining previous wounds, uncovering limiting beliefs and addressing unproductive behaviour patterns.

INTEGRATE

Connect your body and your mind and experience greater health and wellbeing.

Our unconscious mind & body doesn’t know the difference between the actual now and imagined or recalled memories.  In experiencing a singular or ongoing trauma our nervous system goes into dysregulation and is not able to fully process the event or experiences.

It will respond by interpreting whatever is coming up in your mind, that it is happening now in your reality.  This could trigger addiction, depression, anxiety, illness, chronic pain, known and unknown inner wounds, emotional outbursts, self sabotage

To start the healing process we need to feel safe, we need to feel heard, we need to feel held.  Then we can start to heal the emotions and traumas of the past and worries or negative goals of the future.

~ The body remembers what the mind tries to forget ~

The path leading from trauma, mental health and addictive disorders to wholeness and recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.

It takes time, patience, presence and determination. It doesn’t solely happen in a therapeutic setting, but also in the joys and struggles of daily life.

WHY COMBINE TALK THERAPY WITH SOMATIC PSCYHOTHERAPY?

My clients gain deeper insights into their triggers, behaviours, and effective strategies for managing challenging situations, all without assigning blame or succumbing to fear. This empowerment enables them to move closer to achieving their desired outcomes in life.

The term “somatic” originates from the ancient Greek word “somat” meaning body, while “psychology” is derived from “psyche” (soul or mind) and “logia” (study). Somatic psychotherapy is rooted in the belief that the psyche (mind) and soma (body) are interconnected, forming a unified entity known as the mind-body.

Through somatic psychotherapy, individuals can enhance their awareness of bodily sensations, alleviate stress, rebalance their nervous system, improve posture, and cultivate a heightened sense of vitality, liveliness, and mobility.

By employing somatic techniques for exploration, individuals can tap into the flow of spontaneity, creativity, and purpose throughout their bodies while identifying and addressing areas where this flow may be inhibited.

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Kate’s warmth and honesty was amazing, which enabled me to easily open up to the process. I can honestly say that the healing journey I had was nothing short of an embodied experience. I believe something has shifted beyond explanation. The session being online did not prevent Kate from creating a connection which enabled this to happen.

When I showed up for the session and how I feel now is that I’ve been able to release any negative responses to alcohol but more than that I feel like I’m a lot lighter and I just feel more alive and connected to myself, my body and the world around me.  I just felt so dull beforehand and it’s a lovely bonus having gone through this process to feel a physical transformation. I love the process, because it’s kind of like a hack for your emotions and your body. I feel 100% better than I did when I started. And a clarity of mind as well.

Kate was so kind and patient with me during my session. She helped me locate my reflux/anxiety and I could visualise it inside me, she helped me breathe thought it and heal it. She also took me to a past event I experienced. I released 3 different emotions during that session. I felt comfortable to be vulnerable in Kate’s presence. I always feel lighter and more in-tune to myself after a session with Kate.
